PURPLE TREE BOOKS REVIEW: Konigsberg’s novel Silent to the Bone is a unique and well fashioned story for young readers that reinforces positive themes including the observations that true friends will accept you for who you are, understanding comes from experience and silence can be a tool of communication and not just a barrier. When a tragic even occurs in Branwell’s life he is shocked in to complete and utter silence. What will become of him? Will his sister be okay? What really happened? As events unfold and Branwell friend Conner stays to support him, Branwell begins, little by little, to communicate again in his own individual way.
BOOK SUMMARY: Speechless. Connor is sure his best friend, Branwell, couldn’t have hurt Branwell’s baby half sister, Nikki. But Nikki lies in a coma, and Branwell is in a juvenile behavioral center, suspected of a horrible crime and unable to utter the words to tell what really happened.
